Nursing Pillows

April 21st, 2011 by Alicia

Today I am going to review my nursing pillow.

I have a Leachco nursing pillow, which is one of the less expensive ones, but it works just the same. This is one of those items you can do without and just use a normal pillow, which I did try to do, but it isn’t the same. With a normal pillow, they are either too fluffy or not enough, and if you can get them to the right degree then to get it positioned for you and baby, it is harder than you think. The $20 on this nursing pillow is money well well spent.

Not only is this a U shaped nursing pillow, but it is actually an infant safety seat with reflux relief (which don’t ask me what that is, but the paperwork say it is. I think it just has to with the the way the baby is in it, and the strap hitting them, helps with the burps). You can also sit baby up and let them play between it, and if they do have a wobble and fall down, they land on a soft pillow. It has a removable cover, so if baby thinks it is a good idea to puke, which they do a lot of, you can easily remove it and throw it into the wash machine. Overall, this pillow works from the day you come home from the hospital, or well you are still in it, til about 6-8months old when they baby can sit on their own without support. I know my little guy still enjoys using it, but more to climb over as an obstacle on his way to a toy.

I would give this a 3.8 out of 5 stars.

Organizing is good

Today I will be reviewing the DEX Ultimate Baby Diaper and Toiletries Organizer.

This little product I seen in store when I was doing my registry for the baby shower. At first I walked past it and then I came back to it and really checked it out. I thought at first how silly it was to have something like this, but I can tell you, I was way wrong and am so grateful to have this (especially in the middle of the night when we do diaper changes).

This product costs $14.50, yes it does seem a little high for something that holds the things you already have around your changing table anyways, but that money is well spent. When you are up at 2am, and you really don’t want to turn a light on, it is so nice to have everything organized to the point of you know exactly where everything is, and don’t have to leave the baby unattended to reach down or look for something. This product comes with straps so you can easily attach it to any changing table, crib, dresser or door. It also comes with Velcro so you can attach it to anything as well. I did non of the above, and just put nails in my wall right next to the changing table, and have it attached to my wall. Underneath it I have two baskets, one for his dirty clothes, and one for his socks/bibs. His changing table buds next to the organizer, and next to the laundry baskets. For me, this is perfect because I can stand in front of him so he doesn’t wiggle anywhere, and still be able to reach everything, and put away the dirty stuff in his laundry baskets. On the other side of the changing table I have his wastebasket for stinky diapers, which again, I don’t have to move to throw it away.

This organizer has 3 slots at the top, the middle one of perfect for holding the tub of wipes, and the side ones for whatever else you need to put there. Also has two mesh pockets for the little things. The bottom has 2 deep pockets, and one with a mesh barrier. Most people put the diapers where the mesh is, but I have them next to it, where the deep pockets are. I use the mesh barrier to put his socks and clothing, so I never have to leave him to open the dresser and get out items. I use the top two mesh pockets for his odds and ends, like a teething ring, a binky, a few washcloths and the other side for his other diapering products like diaper rash cream, baby powder and I do have his baby lotion on that side as well.

I would give this product a 4.3 out of 5 stars, and would recommend it to any new mommy.

Review this!

So I have decided that since my little man is a little over 7 months old and we have been going through his stuff to put away, sell or give away, that I might do some reviews on our products. I can’t believe how much stuff he has that he is too big for now, or is just starting to use. It seems like he has way too much, but so far from what I see, we have used everything and don’t have a lot of extras. He is currently in 6-9 month clothing, so all his little newborn, 0-3 months and 3-6 months are too small for him, but I can say with certain that he has worn EVERY piece of clothing that is in the box. Maybe he only wore some of them a time or two, where others he worn a dozen, but I know for a fact, he has worn everything in there.

Today’s review is about a Fisher Price product that I truly love and adore. It is their Precious Planet Crib to Floor Lion Mirror. Now my son’s room is green and yellow (we wanted to keep it neutral because when we were painting, where were not sure boy or girl, and if we have a second one, it is still very neutral), and the theme in his room in jungle, so this playful mirror matches so well.

The mirror is only $15 and it can be attached in almost every crib, plus you can set it up on the floor for the child to play with as well. It is sold at most major stores, we got ours from Wal-Mart. The mirror is unbreakable, and trust me have I tried to just see if I could break it a time or two, just to see. This mirror helps to promote self discovery because they child gets to look at themselves, and when they move their hands to hit the mirror of the toys on it, they see their own hand in the mirror. The different toys on the mirror make sounds. Two of them are like rattles with beads inside you can see when you shake them, and one of them when you touch makes a crinkly sound, and the last one when you squeeze squeaks at you. All four of them have different colors, and different fabric textures. I know I still love this product because during our household activities, I can prop my son on the floor sitting up with the mirror in front of him, and be able to unload the dishwasher, and he is so entertained.

The only negative I can think of with this awesome mirror is that it doesn’t fit in every crib. Besides that I would give this item a review of 4.5 out of 5 stars. It is definitely mommy approved and kid friendly. Well I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Happy Tax Day

April 15th, 2011 by Alicia

Day is April 15th, and for many of you, that means a very stressful day because your taxes are due today. You can’t procrastinate any longer because they have be post marked by today, which means you better be WAITING in that line at the post office getting it official stamped. You could always trust that if you threw it in their mailbox they would stamp it, but after about 6pm, you are SOL on that one. It is better to stand in line (even if the line is 20 people deep) and watch them stamp today’s date on it.
Well I don’t have much else to say today. I am in some slight pain thanks to yesterdays workout, and my little man hasn’t taken a good nap yet, so I am off to play with him, and hopefully make him tired. Have a great weekend. Don’t forget all the great deals people have for tax day, like McDonald’s Buy One Get One Free deal (though their deal is on Monday April 18th for some reason). But Cinnabon is offering “Tax Day Bites” which is two mini cinnabon bites from 5-9pm tonight (certain locations only, but I know my store does it, too bad it is a good 20 minutes away). Also DirecTV, Dish Network, Verizon FIOS, and some Cox Communications customers will be getting a free preview of HBO and Cinemax over tax day weekend – April 15 to April 18. So enjoy your weekend and watch lots of movies with the family.
